President Bola Ahmed Tinubu met with founding members of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) and the Buhari Support Organisation at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. During the meeting, he assured them that his administration had already achieved its revenue targets and that Nigeria was no longer relying on local borrowing to fund government operations.
Tinubu explained that fiscal discipline and reforms had stabilised the economy, making the foreign exchange market more predictable. He noted that when he took office, the exchange rate was unstable, but today, businesses no longer need special connections before accessing foreign exchange.
The president stressed that the next stage of reform was to boost trade capacity by building ships and vessels that will aid export and import, creating jobs for Nigerians. He admitted that the early days of his policies were difficult for citizens but maintained that the economy is on the path to long-term stability and growth.
On agriculture, Tinubu disclosed that he had approved a nationwide mechanisation programme that would establish farm centres across all regions. He said the initiative was designed to improve productivity, ensure food security and help lift millions of citizens out of poverty.
