Security reforms, including proposals for state policing, have received significant attention, reflecting Nigeria’s ongoing security challenges.
Inclusive governance measures are also highlighted, particularly the Special Seats Bill proposing reserved legislative seats for women. Other areas under review include fiscal transparency, human rights protections, power devolution, recognition of traditional institutions, and potential creation of new states or local government areas.
After the national public hearing, the committees will compile their reports for submission to both chambers. Votes on the alteration bills are expected by November, followed by state assembly approvals in December, and presidential assent in January. This structured approach could make it one of Nigeria’s fastest and most organized constitutional review exercises since 1999.
