Troops Kill 13 Boko Haram/ISWAP Fighters in Borno, Foil Ambush, Recover Weapons and IEDs

Troops from Operation Hadin Kai successfully prevented an ambush and neutralized 13 Boko Haram/ISWAP fighters at Kareto, Borno State, on Wednesday, September 3, 2025. The attack occurred while soldiers were escorting humanitarian trucks along the Gubio–Damasak route.

According to Lt. Col. Sani Uba, the spokesperson for Operation Hadin Kai, the insurgents triggered two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and fired heavily at the convoy. “Our soldiers responded quickly and decisively, eliminating 13 attackers while forcing the rest to retreat in confusion,” he said.

During follow-up operations, troops recovered eight AK-47 rifles, ten AK-47 magazines, and a significant amount of 7.62mm ammunition. Other seized items included camel bags, multiple rolls of detonating cord, and IEDs ready for detonation.

One soldier suffered a minor injury and is reported to be stable. The firefight also damaged four MRAP vehicle tires, and two trucks caught fire. Troops continue clearance operations in the area to prevent further insurgent activity and ensure the safe delivery of aid to Damasak.

This operation highlights the ongoing efforts of Nigerian security forces to protect humanitarian convoys and maintain stability in regions affected by Boko Haram and ISWAP attacks. Continuous vigilance and proactive military action are essential to safeguard civilians and humanitarian operations in conflict-prone areas.
