The Kano chapter of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has removed House of Representatives member Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa from the party, accusing him of working against its interests and failing to meet financial obligations.
According to state chairman Hashim Sulaiman Dungurawa, the expulsion was based on Jibrin’s repeated public criticism of the party and its leadership. He explained that Jibrin’s political strength was never independent but rather tied to the Kwankwasiyya movement and the NNPP platform.
Dungurawa said the party initially created a reconciliation committee after Jibrin’s appearance on Channels Television, but further statements he made were considered as crossing party lines. Instead of engaging in dialogue, the lawmaker allegedly declared loyalty outside the NNPP, which the leadership said left them with no option but to expel him.
The chairman also accused Jibrin of defaulting on mandatory membership dues and vowed that legal action would be taken to recover what he owes. He stressed that it is a constitutional requirement for every party member to contribute financially and Jibrin’s refusal had persisted for too long.
Reacting to speculation that Jibrin may return to the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dungurawa insisted the move would not weaken the NNPP. He argued that politics is about coalition strength and emphasized that Kwankwasiyya remains firmly behind its national leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

This development came shortly after Jibrin himself said it should not surprise anyone if he decides to leave the party. He added that he is mature enough to decide what is best for him politically, while reaffirming that nothing could stop President Bola Tinubu from winning re-election in 2027.
