Leaders from across the world have arrived in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, for the second Africa Climate Summit (ACS2), taking place from September 8–10, 2025. The summit, titled “Accelerating Global Climate Solutions: Financing for Africa’s Resilient and Green Development”, gathers heads of state, climate experts, policymakers, and civil society representatives to define Africa’s climate priorities ahead of next year’s COP30 in Brazil.

Key discussions are focused on:

  • Unlocking Africa’s renewable energy potential
  • Highlighting indigenous climate innovations
  • Attracting sustainable and responsible financing
  • Ensuring development strategies align with urgent climate action

The ACS2 builds on the 2023 Nairobi Summit, where African leaders adopted the Nairobi Declaration, setting a blueprint for green growth and climate financing. This year, delegates aim to go further by pushing for stronger climate adaptation measures, resilient infrastructure development, and innovative funding mechanisms that avoid burdening African economies with excessive debt.

The summit is expected to conclude with the adoption of the Addis Declaration, a unified statement outlining Africa’s climate priorities and its calls to the global community for collaborative action on environmental sustainability and economic resilience.

The event represents a major step for Africa in asserting its voice on global climate policy while balancing urgent environmental needs with long-term economic growth.
