Gunmen Kill Three Policemen at Kogi Border Checkpoint – Police Deploy Tactical Squad

Three police officers were killed in the early hours of Wednesday when armed men stormed a checkpoint in Egbe, a community located in Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State, close to the border with Kwara State.

The Kogi State Police Command confirmed the incident, explaining that the assailants opened fire on officers manning the checkpoint before escaping with their rifles. The attack has raised fresh concerns over security along border communities.

Police spokesperson, SP William Ovye Aya, disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, Miller Dantawaye, has deployed a tactical response team to the area. According to him, the command is working to track down those responsible. “I can confirm that three officers lost their lives today in Egbe. The tactical squad has been deployed, and our operatives are already on the trail of the attackers,” he said.

Local sources in Egbe reported that the gunmen struck suddenly, overpowering the officers and carting away their service weapons before fleeing the scene. Residents have expressed fear following the incident, calling for stronger security presence along the Kogi-Kwara axis.
