Nigeria has been thrown into another blackout following a nationwide collapse of the national electricity grid on Wednesday.

The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) confirmed the development in a public statement issued on its official X (formerly Twitter) page. According to the utility company, supply from the grid was lost at exactly 11:23 am, disrupting power distribution across its operational areas and leaving millions of households and businesses in darkness.

“A loss of supply from the national grid has caused the power outage currently being experienced in our franchise areas,” the company explained, while appealing to customers for patience.

AEDC further assured that its technical team, working in partnership with the Transmission Company of Nigeria and other relevant stakeholders, is already making efforts to restore normal electricity supply once stability is achieved.

Residents in Abuja and neighboring states under AEDC’s network have reported being without electricity since the grid collapse. The company provided its customer service numbers and WhatsApp contacts for inquiries and promised to give continuous updates on the restoration process.

Nigeria has recorded repeated system failures of its national grid over the years, raising concerns among citizens and businesses about the stability of the power sector and its impact on the economy. Wednesday’s incident once again highlights the fragility of electricity infrastructure in the country.
