Yobe Governor Buni Calls on Journalists to Uphold Truth and Responsible Reporting

Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has called on journalists to uphold truth, accuracy, and responsibility in their reporting. He emphasized that spreading sensational or inflammatory stories can threaten public peace and disrupt social cohesion.

The governor delivered his remarks through the Secretary to the State Government, Baba Malam Wali, during the closing ceremony of a three-day training program for members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Yobe State chapter, held in Kano.

  • The State Commissioner for Home Affairs, Information, and Culture, Abdullahi Bego, praised the governor for supporting media capacity-building initiatives and encouraged journalists to apply the lessons learned in their work.
  • The workshop featured expert presentations on media convergence, data journalism, social media strategy, and career growth. Resource persons included Prof. Danjuma Gambo from the University of Maiduguri and Dr. Kelle Shettima from the MacArthur Foundation.

Governor Buni concluded that journalists have the power to positively influence society by consistently prioritizing accuracy, fact-checking, and ethical reporting, which ultimately fosters national harmony and development.
