GUSAU, Zamfara – A deadly ambush along the Lilo–Gulubba Road on Monday has claimed the lives of five Nigerian soldiers and ten local villagers, all traders from Lilo Village under Mada District, Gusau Local Government Area, Zamfara State. 🚨

The attack occurred while military personnel were escorting traders to Gusau market. Eyewitnesses reported that armed assailants had strategically hidden along the route and suddenly opened fire on the convoy, resulting in heavy casualties. Some survivors fled into surrounding bushes, while others sustained injuries.

Mohammed Mohammed, spokesperson for Lilo and nearby communities, described the ambush as a devastating incident that has left the region in shock. “The attackers emerged from hiding and engaged our convoy in a fierce gunfight. The soldiers fought valiantly, but sadly, five lost their lives along with ten villagers. The attackers eventually retreated after suffering losses,” he said.

Community leaders are now appealing to local, state, and federal authorities to address pressing security and infrastructural challenges in the area, highlighting urgent needs in education, healthcare, road construction, and reinforced security measures. 🏥🛣️🛡️
